Dr. Genrich S. Altshuller, the creator of TRIZ, realized that the most difficult problems in engineering involved fundamental contradictions. Most solutions to a complex problem were trade-offs. A desired improvement of a system’s parameter in a trade-off caused deterioration of another parameter in the system. As a result of a trade-off, the system did not perform at least one of its functions perfectly, but a breakthrough solution to a difficult problem satisfies both conflicting requirements of the contradiction. Altshuller selected the world’s most significant inventions and analyzed ways of solving and eliminating the fundamental contradictions. He discovered that just several hundred Inventive Principles were used to create solutions in many thousands of breakthrough inventions. Today’s TRIZ is based on analysis of approximately 1.5 million inventions worldwide.

Every breakthrough invention is a significant step in the evolution of a product or technology. Altshuller discovered common tendencies in the evolution of many different products. He called these tendencies Laws of Engineering System Evolution. They will provide you not only with understanding of the inevitable evolution of your product and technology, but also with the opportunity to accelerate its evolution. Guided by the Laws of Engineering System Evolution, you can define problems which are worth solving.

The Algorithm for Inventive Problem Solving (ARIZ) is the main TRIZ method for solving contradictions step by step. It is a logical method based on the Laws of Engineering System Evolution. These steps include analysis of the contradiction, building the model of the conflict, defining the ideal solution to the conflict, defining the Physical Contradiction and separating conflicting requirements. Many problems with contradictions involved could now be routinely solved.

The TRIZ Standard Techniques are the most effective transformations of a product or process toward breakthrough improvements.

TRIZ offers experience drawn from most successful inventions. TRIZ thinking increases the ability of people to solve difficult problems and create significant inventions. The TRIZ knowledge-based way of thinking gives you advantages in systematic innovation to develop better products at a lower cost and in less time. TRIZ has been proven by practice.
